When Is A Gantry Crane The Right Material Handling Solution?
Gantry Cranes are the best choice of material handling system for common applications, from manufacturing lines to heavy equipment and automotive repair. If a forklift can’t handle your materials—due to space constraints limiting turn radius, or enclosures that prevent fork access—a Gantry Crane can.
BHS Gantry Cranes are compatible with a wide range of attachment devices, allowing them to handle any material, including bulky, awkward items like motors and large, tube-shaped products like container drums and metal or cement pipe. With many sizes, capacities, and features available, BHS Gantry Cranes integrate smoothly with existing material handling systems—and custom models are always available.
While custom lifting devices from BHS meet any material handling challenge, standard Gantry Cranes are an ideal solution for scenarios that include one or more of the following conditions:
- Materials move along a straight line of 20 feet (6 meters) or less. Longer distances are available with custom models; call 800.BHS.9500 for details. For fixed material handling pathways, Rigid Floor Mounts secure the system in place for high-capacity usage.
- Start and end points aren’t always the same. Portable Gantry Cranes feature large swivel casters to reposition the system wherever it’s needed. And Power Drive Gantry Cranes travel along V-Groove Dual Guidance or Singe Guidance Tracks, complete with Track End Stops with or without rubber bumpers.
- Vertical lift height requirements of up to 12 feet (3.6 meters). Standard models are available with underbeam clearance of 10 feet (3 meters) or 12 feet (3.6 meters)—but custom Gantry Cranes can go up to 20 feet (6 meters) and beyond. Contact us to discuss your unique specifications.
- Loads weigh up to 3 tons (2,721 kilograms). Gantry Cranes from BHS offer your choice of 2-ton (1,814-kilogram) or 3-ton (2,721-kilogram) Hoist Kits, with manual or motorized travel and a range of pendant control styles.
- Specialized lifting device requirements. Hoists connect to specialty lifting devices, including four-point lifts, pulleys, cables, suction cups, and more.
The flexibility of BHS Gantry Cranes allows them to fit into virtually any material handling system, making them an ideal modular addition to any industrial workplace. If you have more specialized requirements, call BHS, Inc. at 1.800.BHS.9500 to discuss custom Gantry Cranes or full material handling integration projects.
Gantry Cranes and OSHA Compliance
